R&V Estate win gold and "Best of Nation" award at the 2002
San Fransisco International Wine Show
Rust en Vrede's 1998 Estate Wine has been awarded a Gold medal at
San Francisco's 22nd International Wine Competition, the only gold
winner from South Africa.
This is no mean feat - with 3810 wines judged, San Francisco's International
Wine Competition, held in June, is America's largest and most prestigious
wine show. But even significantly, Rust en Vrede also won the Best
of Nation Award, an award only presented when a sufficient number
of representative wines are entered from any one country.
This news comes soon after Rust en Vrede's Estate Wine was chosen
as one of the US Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines for the second year
in a row, the only South African estate, and one of few in the world,
ever to achieve this. With this treble affirmation, it is becoming
clear that Rust en Vrede's Estate Wine is, by international peer
review, South Africa's leading blended
red wine.
This appreciation is echoed by local judges: Rust en Vrede 1998
has been awarded the full five stars in John Platter's South African
Wines 2002 and four stars in the South African Wine Magazine.
Now, with further confirmation against 3810 of the best wines from
21 countries, Rust en Vrede's position as one of this country's
finest blends is unsurpassed. It is also becoming abundantly clear
that it is leading the way in the establishment of a South African
icon.
