Blend Stays On Winning Streak - Veritas Awards 2002
Rust en Vrede's 1999 Estate Wine recently won a gold medal at Veritas
2002 to cement its position as one of South Africa's leading red
blends and as an emerging icon wine.
This 1999 Estate Wine already has an illustrious reputation - and
pedigree. For the third year running, this wine has excelled in
the US Wine Spectator tastings, this time with a 91/100. In the
previous two years, the Estate Wine has been named one of this magazine's
top 100 wines - the only South African wine ever to achieve this
back-to-back accolade. More important than one-off medals is consistency:
something for which Rust en Vrede is now very well known.
In San Francisco's International Wine Competition, the biggest in
the world, it also gathered a gold award as well as "Best of
Nation" for South Africa. With this continuing affirmation,
it is becoming clear that Rust en Vrede's Estate Wine is, by international
and local peer review, South Africa's leading blended red wine.
This gold award for the 1999 Estate Wine also rounds out Rust en
Vrede's exceptional reputation as a creator of superior blended
wines - all Rust en Vrede and Guardian Peak blends entered for this
year's Veritas won Gold or Double Gold.
Only ten wines were awarded Double Gold or Gold in this year's Red
Blends category, Rust en Vrede and Guardian Peak took three of these
with the very three blends they produce. This is even more remarkable
if one considers that there were over 120 wines competing in this
category - a notable Rust en Vrede milestone.
